The Cisco uBR-MC28 cable interface line card is for the Cisco uBR7246VXR router. The Cisco uBR-MC28 cable interface line card is available in two configurations:

• Cisco uBR-MC28U—with an onboard upconverter and green end tabs

• Cisco uBR-MC28X—without an onboard upconverter and with yellow end tabs

Cabling the Cisco uBR-MC28U

The Cisco uBR-MC28U cable interface line card has an onboard upconverter. To cable the card:

Step 1 Connect the downstream cables to the downstream ports (DS0-DS1). RF downstream port rings and end tabs are green.

Step 2 Connect the upstream cables to the upstream ports.

It improves RF performance, supports spectrum management, and increases system performance. The Cisco uBR7200 Series MC28U Advanced CMTS Functions consists of:

1. PHY RF interface

2. MAC processing

3. On-board packet processing

Cisco's uBR-MC28U high-performance processing engine integrates well with DOCSIS- or Euro-DOCSIS-based networks. It creates secure bidirectional transmission of IP packets for data, voice, and video services. This card supports 6 MHz National Television Systems Committee (NTSC) channel operation, 88 to 860 MHz range, upstream channels in the 5-42 MHz range, 9 MGz Phase Alternating Line (PAL) and Systemme Electronique Couleur Avec Memoire (SECAM) channel plans, up stream spectrum range of 5-65 MHz, increased downstream channel width of 8 MHz, and 6 MHz J-DOCSIS channel operation.

The Cisco uBR-Mc28U/X Broadband interface line card is supported only in a Cisco uBR 7246VXR Universal Broadband Router. The uBR 7246VXR is a member of the Cisco uBR7200 Series (which provides a single, multiservice, Layer 3 routing, scalable platform for IP data, video and voice services). To conclude, this line card has advanced PHY, ATDMA, and onboard CPU for enhanced RF and throughput performance (as compared to uBR-MC16C and uBR28C). The modem cards with part numbers UBR-MC16U and UBR-MC28U have an internal upconverter, while the cards with part numbers UBR-MC16X and UBR-MC28X do not.
