Cisco Provides Secure, Virtual "In Person" Communication Across the Internet

What is this virtual "in person" communication called? Cisco named it Cisco TelePresence. This new technology allows us to virtually speak face-to-face with multiple users all at the same time (as illustrated above). No doubt, you have already seen this advanced technology on your favorite television news programs. Cisco TelePresence technology successfully "bridged the geographic gap within organizations [as it brings] customers and partners together in an extended ecosystem of communication" (cisco.com).

This new technology opens up new possibilities in the workplace as well. Business partners can enjoy the benefits of having face-to-face live communication with their virtual "in person" business partners across the globe. Not only this, but it enhances communication without the hardship of expensive traveling expenses and periodical face-to-face communication.

Here are just a few of the benefits:

  • Improved customer service/quality of service

  • Improved customer intimacy

  • Tighter supply chain connections

  • Seemingly "in person" discussions and negotiations

  • Speed up decision making

  • Improve cross-cultural communications

  • Move products to market faster

Is Cisco TelePresence Secure?

"The intercompany Cisco TelePresence architecture provides comprehensive security at the endpoint through authentication and encryption, in the enterprise network with firewall and NAT traversal, and in the service provider network through topology hiding and MPLS VPNs. Topology hiding is accomplished in the service provider network with the Cisco XR 12000 Multi-Service Blade using session border functionality. NAT and firewall traversal will be enabled through the Cisco Unified Border Element. Ease of use for the end user is maintained through directory and 'one button to push' scheduling capabilities" (cisco.com).
