What is Required for Broadband EquipmentWritten October 2007
In order to get broadband, you need ADSL service; and ADSL service uses an upgraded phone line called "line activation".
An USB ADSL modem is a faster version (which is provided by some broadband ISPs). You will either plug the modem into a USB port or insert a PCI card into your computer and the other line connects to your telephone line.
An ADSL router is another version of a USB modem, but you can connect several computers to the same broadband account.
If you connect multiple computers, ADSL Wi-Fi routers are able to connect all in-house wireless computers to the Internet. Once the Wi-Fi router is installed, it stays plugged into your phone socket which allows all other in-house computers and PDAs (or other hand held devices) to automatically have wireless access. Wi-Fi adaptors are required for each wireless computer unless a Wi-Fi is already built into it.
Satellite broadband services is an excellent service for remote areas. You can buy the equipment for this at Micronet - and they will install it for you. With this service, you will need a DVB modem for your computer(s). The modem plugs into your phone line. However, some satellites have two-way communication systems, but they cost much more.
Cable modems (and sometimes Wi-Fi routers) are used when you have cable service (i.e. Starstream) and are provided by the cable company. Cable service can provide broadband, phone service, and digital TV.
To have 3G broadband coverage for mobile (cell) phones for a digital network, you will need a PCMCIA card for your computer. The 3G is the third generation of mobile phone standards and technology where you will experience sending and receiving text messaging, photos, videos, emailing service, and broadband services.
